Birchwood's Square Lake Road Race

This race is my baby, all grown up and move away. Actually, I moved away, but whatever. Anyways, finally got to race a birchwood road race in something like 5 years. Maybe 4.

I hate road racing. I hate crit racing. Not like I hate other things, but I dont feel excited and confident, I feel nervous and anxious. But once we got rolling, I felt better. More comfortable than I ever have at the start of the race.

Its a 4.5 neutral roll out to the course and I with a couple others led the way. Nothing special to report here. But once we hit the course, the pace picked up. Nothing crazy, just "go!" time. I stayed up front for many miles, Tried to stay close to Jared. I kept him in sight for some time.

Then the hill came. I started great. The pace was good. I was probably top-ten heading into the hill, but in no time, I slide back to the end of the pack. And I saw them roll away. I just couldn't close it. I dont have that upper-level-torque. I cant grit my teeth, shut my eyes and fight it out.

Not yet.

Anyways. I tried to bridge up-didnt and was forced to ride by myself for about 1/2 lap. A LSC racer caught up to me and we worked to finish the race.

That was my 5 (6?) road race and my body was tight/sore/unhappy. Only one way to fix that problem, but racing more of them is unlikely until Clay gets into Harvard, Joanna in Yale. So until then, you enjoy your wins boys.. I'm on the word's longest base-building program...

then it was family time at my folks, then over to spence's bday party. Luckily I avoided redmond.

you're a good rider. your time up front didn't go unnoticed.

sorry to hear you didn't make it up the first hill with the group but i was glad to see you toughed it out and i witnessed you pull across the finish line.

keep it up. my latest blog post says it all
