Thank goodness I didn’t race this one…. Look how cold Dave is, and he runs hot.
Here's is his race report:
The snow wasn't really an issue, it was the severe and gusty winds. As one would expect - the story of the day was gutterball. Survive the two gutterball legs, and you were fine. Incidentally, at one point on a tailwind leg, I was spun out in my 53-11 gong 45 mph. Also, at one point in a headwind leg, I was in my 39-23 and standing up digging deep to close a gap in the paceline . . . at 12 mph.
I made the first selection at the first turn, but lost them on the second gutterball. I had to take off my glasses because they were too fogged, and I couldn't take my hands off the bars to put them on my helmet. I put them in my teeth, and dug deep to try to stay on the pack, but they got a gap, and I had to slow down to get the glasses in my back pocket. Again, my inexperience shows. I should have seen this coming, and got the glasses of before the turn.
The rest of the day was struggling to stay with smaller groups. Again with the wind, I still couldn't take my hands off the bars to get any food out of my back pocket. Once I finally was able to get a couple of gels into my stomach, I was good to go. Live and learn -
Dave

dude - I need to check your site more often -
Thanks for the spot - it was actually really really miserable. Cold, yes - but mostly uncontrollably windy. In the sidewinds, my bike looked like this / then like this \. You get the basic idea . . .
