Course description:
Very rough and bumpy flat to several interesting corkscrew-to-barrier combos. Some singletrack and various off-road obsticles thrown in for fun. Nothing too terrible, other than the rough ground.
I spent most of friday and saturday nursing a strain muscle caused by poor training. I was concerned that I couldnt race due to the inability to re-mount. So even while staging, I placed myself toward the back of the field to prevent any troublesome strain of a real race.
First lap started REAL slow. I think the rough turf worried most of the field. Slowly, the pace picked up and in no time things were cooking. I felt no real pain remounting, so I picked up my own pace and found that painful "happy place" only cyclocross racers know.
It was fun to have the family out cheering my on. Clay and Joanna ran ofter me on each lap, screaming their heads off. Good support.
But as the laps widdled away, so did any fitness. I could pass fellow racers in the technical parts, easy dismounting and remounting, but they'd sweep by me on the flats. I just couldnt handle the strain. I finished just as I usually do, 25th or so out of 60 racers. Not much improvement it seems.
The muscles are very sore now. Pics to come.
time for bed.
